The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) will mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa. The conference – known as Rio+20 – will be preceded by hundreds of events hosted across the globe by leaders in the government, the private sector, academia and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Thousands of participants from these sectors will come together to discuss how to secure the future we want for the next billion in a world of constrained natural resources.
Feeding a population of 8 billion by 2030 will require new and creative thinking about the foods we eat and how we produce them. PepsiCo will participate in multiple events leading up to the conferences to facilitate discussions around our role in sustainable agriculture, water and energy consumption.
In addition to sponsoring the World Green Summit, the Forum on Social Entrepreneurship in the New Economy and WBCSD/BASD Business Day, PepsiCo will also participate in the UN Global Compact Corporate Sustainability Forum, the ABA Marketing Forum and SPREAD Sustainable Lifestyles 2050.
