This story ran in PEPline, PepsiCo’s global employee newsletter, and is proudly brought to you by a PepsiCo employee or a friend or family member of a PepsiCo employee.
With its two year anniversary just a month away, the PepsiCo Dream Machine recycling initiative is continuing to grow its U.S. presence with new partnerships. North American supermarket chain Safeway recently launched the initiative as a pilot program, spanning five Vons locations across Los Angeles and Sherman Oaks, Calif. The pilot will not only offer recyclers reward points, coupon offerings and the chance to help support U.S. veterans with disabilities, but will also provide on-the-job training for LA Conservation Corps (LACC) members.
Through a partnership with Safeway and LACC, at-risk young adults and school-aged youth will gain valuable work experience as they maintain the Dream Machine kiosks at participating locations, and transport the recycled material through the processing phase at local recycling centers. In addition, LACC will receive the California Redemption Value (CRV) for all plastic bottles and aluminum cans recycled in the kiosks, to help fund LACC educational, conservation and service projects that will benefit the local community.
The Dream Machine recycling initiative has introduced thousands of recycling kiosks and bins at high-traffic, public locations in 40 U.S. states, with host locations spanning grocery, convenience, military and college and university channels.
