Monday, September 26, 2011

At a ceremony honoring Uganda Pepsi franchisee Crown Beverage Limited, Ugandan Prime Minister Rt Hon Amama Mbabazi applauded PepsiCo for actively participating in the economic turnaround of Africa through the creation of direct and indirect jobs and for stimulating investments on the continent. Prime Minister Mbabazi said the success of Pepsi and Crown Beverages mirrors the success of Ugandans, because the company has been right at the heart of Uganda’s private sector.

“I would like to thank Pepsi for the great contribution they are making to the growth of our economy in Uganda and to the well-being of our people,” said Prime Minister Mbabazi. “The government of Uganda is proud of your achievement.”

The ceremony was held in Kampala, Uganda, to award Crown Beverages for achieving the highest market share growth across PepsiCo AMEA in 2010. Sanjeev Chadha, president – PepsiCo Middle East and Africa Region, presented the award to Crown Beverages Chairman Amos Nzeyi.

Sanjeev said that economic growth and stability in the region had given PepsiCo confidence to invest in East Africa. “Our Ugandan operations are doing very well and our market share has grown tremendously over the last several years,” said Sanjeev. “Africa is the new Asia.”
