It’s finally here: the last—and most audacious—Crash the Super Bowl ad contest ever. For the 10th and final year, Doritos is giving fans the chance to create a commercial that will be seen by more than 115 million people on Super Bowl Sunday, and the opportunity to take home a one-million-dollar prize. This year’s entries are bound to be even better and bolder than ever before, as Doritos fans around the globe shoot to secure their spot in Crash the Super Bowl history.


When Crash the Super Bowl launched in 2006, the contest broke new ground by giving everyday consumers control of high-profile (and notoriously pricey) Super Bowl ads. To enter, fans were tasked with creating a 30-second commercial that extolled their devotion to the Doritos brand.

And rose to the occasion they did: Winners’ spots rank among the most buzzed-about Super Bowl commercials of all time, and four have hit #1 on the USA Today Ad Meter. More than seven million dollars in prize money has been awarded, and past winners have been signed by Hollywood agencies and gone on to work in the commercial and television industries.

“We’re giving consumers one last shot to make their mark and see their homemade ads air during the Super Bowl broadcast,” said Jeff Klein, vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay. “This is truly last call for all of those who not only want a shot at one million dollars—but want a chance to jump-start their career in Hollywood.”

A panel of judges will announce three finalists in January, then give consumers the final vote on which commercial will air on advertising’s biggest stage. This year, the two runners-up won’t leave empty handed: They’ll each receive $100,000 and the chance to consult on an upcoming Doritos project. Plus, all three finalists will be invited to watch Super Bowl 50 from a private (Doritos-filled!) suite at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.


Along with the million-dollar cash prize, this year’s winner will receive the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collaborate with Zack Snyder, director of one of 2016’s most anticipated films, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, while working with Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment.

“Having made several Super Bowl commercials myself, I’m really excited to be a part of this year’s contest,” said Snyder, also known for his work on the Dawn of the Dead remake and Man of Steel. “It is the venue which always produces the most innovative and exciting work. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with."
