What’s one of the oldest brands in the PepsiCo portfolio? It’s nut what you might think…

With roots dating back to 1806, Duyvis is one of PepsiCo’s oldest brands and a lasting example of how heritage and relevance can go hand in hand.
Duyvis history 220yr

If brands had birthdays with candles, Duyvis nuts would need a very big cake. Founded in 1806, it’s one of the oldest brands in the PepsiCo portfolio, and proof that great taste never really goes out of style. And at a time when more people are thinking about protein, it feels like a particularly good moment to be a nut brand.

Born in the Zaan region of the Netherlands, Duyvis started life pressing oils long before snacking was even a thing. More than 220 years later, it is still part of people’s good moments, just with a lot more crunch.

“We’ve been experts in nuts for over two centuries,” said Paula Marconi, chief marketing officer, PepsiCo Europe. “That gives you confidence to have a little fun with it.”

From oil mills to iconic snack bowls

Duyvis began as a family business founded by Teewis Duyvis, originally focused on oil production and animal feed. By the 1960s, Duyvis had firmly found its calling. Peanuts, treenuts, mixes, and the now iconic Borrelnootjes became staples in Dutch homes. In 2006, Duyvis joined PepsiCo, bringing with it deep local roots, a playful personality, and a very loyal fanbase.

Why so many people keep reaching for Duyvis

Ask someone in the Netherlands what Duyvis stands for, and you probably won’t hear a product description. You’ll hear about a moment. Duyvis is famously linked to the idea of a ‘fuif’: a spontaneous gathering, a surprise celebration, or that instant when a quiet room suddenly becomes lively.

“Duyvis is about bringing energy into everyday moments,” said Paula. “Sometimes all it takes is opening a bag.”

It’s no surprise it’s still the No. 1 nuts brand in the Netherlands, and one of the most recognizable snack names in the country.

A line-up that knows its nuts

Duyvis’ range reflects more than two centuries of know-how and a love of variety. The portfolio includes:

  • Borrelnootjes: crunchy peanuts with a salty, and spiced coating
  • Peanuts: from classic salted to oven-baked favourites
  • Treenuts & mixes: cashews, almonds and carefully balanced blends
  • Tijgernootjes: double-coated nuts with extra crunch and flavor

What’s next? A big moment for nuts

After more than two centuries, Duyvis is not slowing down. As more people pay attention to what helps them feel satisfied through the day, protein is having a moment, and nuts fit into that shift.

Naturally rich in protein, nuts have always been at the heart of the Duyvis portfolio.

“We’re not trying to be something new,” Paula explained. “We’re building on what Duyvis has always done well and why people have kept coming back to it.”

From oil mills to party bowls, Duyvis continues to do what it does best: bringing flavor, fun, and spontaneity to everyday life.
